Spider Vein Treatment
Spider Vein Treatment on Long Island
Spider veins are characterized by clusters of blue and red veins, often resembling a spider web. It has been estimated that over 50% of American men and women have spider veins on their legs, chest or face. Additionally, patients of any age can begin to see spider veins.
While some may consider spider veins a cosmetic issue, they are frequently symptomatic. Patients may experience aching, itching or burning. Women who are pregnant may also experience spider veins. Sitting or standing for a long period of time and the hot weather may cause symptoms to worsen.
Dr. Gallagher Offers Sclerotherapy and Laser Therapy as Treatments for Spider Veins
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy works with the use of a chemical sclerosant that is injected into the vein to seal off and shut down the unneeded vein. Sclerotherapy can be used on both legs and face, and can be done in the comfort of our office. In some cases, a special laser is used in conjunction with sclerotherapy. This combination is the so called “double-injury technique”.
This makes the spider vein removal treatment more efficient and more aesthetically pleasing because it virtually eliminates staining of the skin, which can occur with conventional sclerotherapy and other vein surgery procedures.
Schedule a Consultation With Our Vein Surgeon
There is no downtime after sclerotherapy. It can be considered a “lunch time” appointment with the vein surgeon in which you can return to work from the vein clinic immediately. We ask our patients to do a lot of walking after the spider vein removal treatment, and to wear compression stockings to aid in the process.
Our spider vein doctor does not recommend Sclerotherapy for women who are pregnant or breast feeding, as well as patients with circulation or heart conditions. If you have been struggling with spider veins and think that you might need a spider vein specialist to do a spider vein removal, call our spider vein center to schedule your consultation with our vein surgeon. Our vein treatment center is here to answer all of your vein care and surgery questions.
